That's like me doing this.
CPU-Z validation at 3.2ghz here http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=553834
yet, as far as anyone knows, it was only overclocked long enough to submit for validation. Let's just all completely forget the fact that I'm anti-OC for a minute and realize that I only OC'd to make a point and my system was returned to stock clocks immediately after validation.

Yeah, I suppose if they don't show benchmarks and/or stability tests then the validations really aren't valid.

Guys i got news for u..from me lol.
As i said many times i was not able to OC my CPU..not even 30 MHZ..as some of u and my other friends said; my 4 (all) RAM SLOTS r FULL and it makes my system unstable...i took off 2 of my rams 2x2(4GB) and OC my CPU, so my RAMSPEED to 740 MHZ(its 667 normally)..and now my CPU is 2.96 and working like a cahrm..no crash..no problems...and i benched with sisoftsandra, just CPU..even better than q9550 with 1 points lol..imoaa.anyway...i will stress it with some games today..
My QUESTION here is:
i dont want to leave my 8GB emperor..dont question it pls... i DONT WANT... Please tell me..is it true that my system is unstable becasue of ALL SLOTS r FULL? or 8GB is unstable? i mean, what if i put 2x 4GB rams to only 2 slots? so it may work or another FAIL? well i even not sure if my ASUS P5B will supoort single 4GB rams ..according to asus website they only tested some specific rams..well well current and previous rams r also not in their list but they run fine..HELP people..advice pls.

Yes it is possible, trying increasing your north bridge/mch voltabe by 0.1 or 0.2v, otherwise it could simply be that some of your (8GB) ram doesn't like to be overclocked with tight timings so you could try loosening your timings to 5-5-5-18 or slightly higher.

might have to adjust the voltages a bit too, do not have them on auto by default, because the motherboards usually give more than needed, start off with 1.100vcore which is the default for your processor, you can safely turn it up to around 1,35vcore , unless like you said you have such ****ty tempretures because your fan isn't correctly mounted or there's not enough thermal grease applied. Check it with RealTemp, it's usually quite accurate.
|
I use auto on my P5Q and it changes to 1.248V@3.6GHz. What temps are you getting using real temp? Mine vaires depending on what I'm doing but idle just surfin the net and stuff I hover around 40C. Gaming I go up to 50 to 55C @ 3.6GHz. Stress Testing, I jump to around 80C give or take and have hit as high as 100C with IBT. I'm using stock Intel cooling.

Mr bigtime i think a Q9550 is better than a Q9650 because the difference you have to pay for the .5 multiplier it´s just not worth it! Buy an Q9550 and overclock it a little to 3.0Mhz and you have yourself an Q9650 for 50€ less...
As for overclocking the CPU, this is something that i really recommend for everyone that as one of those puppies!!! Just buy better memories and shoot for the magic 4.0Mhz!!! Otherwise, i´m going to be really disappointed...

Just to let you know: your E8400 would outperform that Q9400, in benches and games. Your friend was right about the cache. Rather a decent overclock on that E8400, and you'd be on a roll.
EDIT: Also, the overclocking thing... Yeah, my P35 based board wouldn't do that with 45nm quads either. Not even 10MHz. It seems to be a common problem with slightly older boards. And yours is P965 based, yes? I think that's even older, so in that case... Yeah, you should indeed have sticked to the E8400

you need to tweak with fsb:ram ratio so it stays around 667mhz.
Do you have this option to chose various multipliers?
edit: maybe this video of bios might help a bit, if it looks like yours.
